Hermione Allsopp makes sculptural work by collecting objects and furniture and re-creating them into new forms or compositions. She retrieves pieces that originate from the home or interior. Purchased from charity or junk shops, they are like a discarded memory, an unwanted thing that speaks of a personal and collective past. By transforming them into sculpture, through assemblage, she considers how the objects can retain a trace of their original function and how they embody part of a past, a social history, but also take on a new form or identity and begin to exist as something else.
